Final PieceFor this piece, we were told to create a spread based off a quote or lyric of some sort. I saw this quote awhile ago and really loved it, but I didn't have an idea of how to express it. My quote is based around how the human race was made to love. This project was challenging because of how loose it was. This was nothing like what I've done before, so I had to have completely new ideas and a lot of experimenting. Through out the project I did not think that it would turn out well because in the process it did not look very good. However, I think overall it was a success and I like how this turned out. I learned so much during this project because, like I said before, this is nothing like I've done before. Luckily, I did mix it some with drawing, and I have a lot of experience with that, so I wasn't completely lost. In general, most of the medium is something I wouldn't have thought to use in an art piece. I really learned that you just need to have fun with your art and be more loose with it, and see where it takes you. I have grown as an artist through this piece because of all the different learning experiences and challenges that I faced through this.
Planning SketchesIn Progress PicturesFinal PieceThis piece is a person reflection of me. I am an elite level swimming, so swimming is a big part of my life. In this drawing I show the two teams that I am now a part of. Towards the top is a MOR cap because that is the team I am on now in high school. MOR has helped me be able to get to the point where I can say that I have committed to swim in college. In the reflection in the puddle is a a cap from George Mason because this is the school I have committed to swim to and where I will continue my swimming career. Artistically, I believe this piece came out very well. When using prisma normally I am drawing people, so this is a change for me. I've also never done anything with water, but this came out very nicely, so I am quite proud of that. With the caps I took reference photos so I knew where the highlights and shadows would be. I made them more dramatic to add more depth into the piece. I think my favorite part of this piece is the goggles; I think they turned out very well. While doing this project I learned the importance of layering with prisma because of how many colors I ended up using. I will definitely be using that skill in future projects, start very light and gradually get darker. I've also grown through this project because prisma is my usual medium, but this is not my usual subject; therefore, now I can continue to expand my horizons on what I can draw in prisma.
Pencil Forms
I drew a sphere, cone, and cylinder to practice using the different values and have a smooth blending techniques. Each shape has three different colors to emphasize the value changes. In addition there is also a shade and highlight to show the extremes of the values. I tested the colors on three different pieces of paper to see how they would all turn out. |
