Required Question
I chose the opacity project. Obviously this was a hard project because we had to draw plastic which is just see through, so how do you draw something that's not there? My idea wasn't exactly very creative. I was trying to of an idea and kept asking people around me because I didn't know what to write. This piece was very mature because it's also very realistic and like something that people actually see in daily life. My piece wasn't very innovative because I just went off the picture a lot. Of course I had my own spin because we aren't suppose to just copy the picture if it's not our own. This project, I feel was successful because it looked very realistic. Plus the plastic looked really good in my opinion. I also feel like the flowers look really good; I'm proud of those. I feel like this was a successful project and I solved the artistic problem.

Question 1
I would describe my art work as realism. My work isn't hyper realistic, but I believe realistic enough to call realism with my style incorporated in it. Success as an artist to me would probably be enjoying what you are doing, liking how it looks, and impressing other people. A lot of artists don't like how their pieces look, but are still extremely successful; so I guess there are exceptions. The most rewarding thing to me about being an artist is the feeling of accomplishment. Like when you finally finish a project and you're really proud of it. Some important skills to draw upon are creativity and productivity. You need to have these to have an interesting piece that you actually finish. Through art making I've learned time management by trying to finish a project on time. Another thing I learned is how to express things that can't be said through words.

Question 2
Most of the semester I just used graphite because that is the medium I actually enjoy using. I did use some charcoal to get highlights and darker values. I learned how to rely more on an actual picture than what I think I see. I used different values to blend it all more together. I also learned how to see things how they actually are than what some people think. My creativity didn't really change because I just started going off the picture and adding more of my own spin. I also grew about how to focus more on each different subject and fill a bigger space.

Question 4
My colored pencil blueberries were very beneficial. Because they helped me learn how to create values and blend colored pencils together. I definitely used the blending technique I learned in my final project.
The eye drawing was also very beneficial because eyes are always a really important part of a face. I learned what to do and what not to do. I also learned how to use a blending stump and I definitely used that in my final. I feel like for both of these mini projects I did well, so I do not need more instruction. The instruction given was good because sometimes you also have to figure things out yourself to learn. |
Question 7
I felt least successful during the still life project. I felt unsuccessful because I never actually finished I just cut off part of it because we had to move on. Still the part that I actually did finish I didn't think it looked very good. There weren't many different values and it all looked pretty rushed. Also the fact that I had to turn around every time I actually wanted to look at it and draw off of the still life. These project was one of the first things we did which is probably one of the main reasons this isn't that good. I hadn't learned as much as I have now. To change this piece i'd probably just try to pay attention more to what was going on in the still life because it was very confusing with all the various random objects.
